About:
I made this small game within 8 days, spending around 52 hours total dev time.
It features a custom built adaptive music system that lets me change the tempo, root note and scale of the music at any time, without using the typical method of stacked audio loops.
In the game I have a few interactable objects that will change the root note and musical scale (actually the mode). There are tempo modifiers based on the player position. The instruments are attached to objects in the world, and they animate in time with the notes that are played.
These objects each have a two sets of data, one pointing at a pattern of pitches by scale degree, and another with a pattern of beats between one note to the next. The patterns are of variable lengths, lending a sort of generative quality to the arrangement.
All the audio was synthesized using Bespoke Synth, and each individual instrument rendered at the root note of A with variations on the timbre but not the pitch or duration.
The game engine is Unity 2020. The environment and 3d models were created within the editor using ProBuilder package. A variety of shaders were built using Unity's shader editor. Textures were made in GIMP, mostly by combining the various map and render functions.
